Syllabus:

Lecturer: Paulo C. Coimbra-Lisboa Abstract: This intermediate course in microeconomics review all topics covered in microeconomics and mathematical economics undergraduate courses and is intended to prepare students for graduate courses in economics and mathematical economics. The course covers the problems of consumer theory, firm theory, markets, general equilibrium theory, game theory, contracts and incentives and market failures. For more details, please see the tentative Course Outline. Pre-requisites: The course is an intermediate microeconomics course for undergraduate students in economics. The course requires some background in microeconomics, and working knowledge of calculus. Some lectures and course material will be in portuguese but most of material will be in English. During the course we will use basic game theoretic concepts, such as strategy and the revelation principle. Familiarity with these concepts is recommended, though not required. Prior knowledge of game theory and contract theory would be helpful to participate in the course. Course Material: The course will mainly be based on lecture notes and book chapters. Required readings are indicated in the Course Outline. The outline is updated monthly, e.g. with the posting of slides and lecture notes. Updates to the folder will be announced in class. Grading: The grade of this course will be based on exams. Lectures: Wednesdays & Fridays  16:40-18:20.
